SEKT Milling Inserts

What Is a SEKT Insert?

SEKT is a square milling-insert family with nominal 20° clearance, K-class tolerance and a fixing-hole or chip-forming configuration. Positive single-sided SEKT1204 variants are used in compatible face mills, with four indexing positions and geometry selected for the required surface and cutting condition.

SEKT Insert Applications

Select the insert and cutter as a complete system. Review the operation, component geometry, machine rigidity and engagement before choosing the grade, coating and edge preparation.

General Face Milling

Produces flat surfaces with a compatible cutter whose entering angle and seat support fit the insert.

Rough Face Milling

Removes stock with a grade and edge preparation suited to interruption and load.

Semi-Finish Facing

Creates a consistent allowance for the final pass while controlling runout and chip evacuation.

Finish Facing

Uses suitable wiper form, tooth positioning and feed to achieve the specified surface finish.

SEKT Insert FAQ

Does BS specify a corner radius?
No. BS identifies the wiper-edge length in the referenced dimensional system; it must not be substituted for RE in the tool model.
Why can two SEKT1204 forms have different fixing holes?
Hole and countersink geometry can vary by insert design. Compare the complete suffix, screw head and pocket support before purchasing a replacement.
What happens if the cutter's wiper insert projects too far?
It can carry excessive chip load, increase force and damage the edge. Set projection and runout to the cutter manufacturer's instructions.
How should a finish defect repeating once per revolution be investigated?
Check the highest axial tooth, damaged wiper, arbor seating, spindle runout and individual pocket condition before changing cutting data.
Can a square insert produce a 90-degree shoulder?
Only in a cutter designed for that shoulder geometry. Square insert shape does not establish the installed entering angle or wall clearance.
What information helps diagnose built-up edge?
Record work material and hardness, speed, feed per tooth, coolant, coating, edge preparation and chip observations, and supply close-up wear photographs.
